Why Brookfurlong?

Brookfurlong Farmhouse is an isolated dwelling (a mile from the village of Islip and 5 miles from Oxford).  It is an eighteenth century listed farmhouse known as Brookfurlong (or Brook Furlong depending on which map you look at).

The name may be derived from the fact that it is about a furlong from Gallos brook, or it could be a corruption of Brock Furlong as there are also badger setts in the vicinity.

The house comprises limestone rubble walls, lime mortar, and limewash throughout, a Stonesfield slate roof to front and side, flagstones floors on the ground floor and elm floorboards on first floor and attic rooms, elm doors, and a green oak conservatory and porch.  We’ve been here since 1992 and have undertaken extensive restoration work in sympathy with the character and history of the building.
